Statement by VCI director-general Utz Tillmann on the Europe Day on 9 May:

“Europe needs a strong European Union to be at eye level with the USA and China – politically, economically and technologically. Courageous change is called for so that Europe can speak with one voice externally and maintain its role in the shaping of globalisation. A convincing vision is vital for the EU to present itself as one single entity, irrespective of Brexit. Here, a functioning single market is of central importance.”

According to Tillmann, not only politicians are responsible for the EU playing its part in the world today and in the future: “If we want the EU to remain a guarantor of peace and prosperity on this continent, all sectors of society are urged to make their active commitment for the European Union. The VCI supports the citizens’ dialogues of Europa-Union Deutschland which aim to highlight the benefits of the EU to the public at large.”

The VCI represents the politico-economic interests of around 1,700 German chemical companies and German subsidiaries of foreign businesses.
