VCI director-general Utz Tillmann voices concern about the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran: „The reintroduction of sanctions against Iran and thus the one-sided withdrawal from the agreement by the United States mean a setback for international disarmament efforts. This unilateral step causes much uncertainty in global politics.”

Tillmann emphasizes: „So long as Iran keeps to the requirements of the accord, all other partners should definitely hold on to the deal.” In this connection, the VCI expressly welcomes that the major signatories in the EU – Germany, France and the UK – want to further pursue the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). According to Tillmann, this initiative should constitute the basis for further activities towards peace and stability in the Middle East.
