VCI on the US presidential election
Working together on the great tasks
VCI director-general Utz Tillmann on the election of the new US President Donald Trump:
„There is much uncertainty about the course that the US is going to take. Irrespective of nationalistic and protectionist positions during the election campaign, we hope that the incoming US President Donald Trump will build on the close political and economic ties between the European Union and the United States. We need a stable transatlantic cooperation in the major global issues of the future – for example, in trade, climate and economic policies.”
The USA is by far the most important export market of the German chemical and pharmaceutical industry: 11.4 percent of all exports of chemical-pharmaceutical products went stateside in 2015. The companies realised proceeds of just under 20 billion euros in trading with US customers. Also where production locations abroad are concerned, the USA is the No. 1 in the corporate strategies of German chemical businesses: They have around 140 US subsidiaires with 71,000 staff and sales of over 61 billion euros most recently.
