Statement of Dr. Utz Tillmann, Director General of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI), regarding the result of the presidential elections in the USA:

"For the chemical industry in Germany, the reelection of President Obama gives new signs of hope that the USA and Europe will continue to strengthen their transatlantic partnership. To this end, discussions about a free trade agreement between the partners must be started soon and concluded rapidly. This would be an important stimulus for growth and employment on both sides of the Atlantic.

Moreover, the ongoing challenges in the process of multilateral trade liberalization within the World Trade Organization (WTO) can only be coped with in close collaboration between the USA and Europe. The task to be solved is the creation of a firm and sustainable regulatory framework for open markets and fair competitive conditions, including a sound integration of newly industrialized countries."
